The President’s Media Division yesterday announced the resignation of President’s Secretary Austin Fernando, ending weeks of speculation.
The PMD news twitter account tweeted last evening “Secretary to the President, Austin Fernando bid farewell to his office just a while ago,” announcing the resignation.
However, there was no statement issued by the Presidential Secretariat about the change. Further, it is not immediately clear if he has resigned from his post as the Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) as well.
Fernando assumed duties as the Secretary to the President last year. He was the Governor of the Eastern Province prior to taking over the Presidential Secretariat.
