Additional security provided for four candidates

Additional security has been provided to four of the candidates contesting the Presidential Elections by the Police following reports from the CID of a heightened threat to them during the election campaign.

The four are UNP/NDF candidate Sajith Premadasa, SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa, NPM candidate JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and former Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake, who is contesting from the National People’s Party.

The JVP Leader has turned down additional security, Daily FT learns.
