The Attorney General will file a revision application in the Colombo High Court against the bail order in favour of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, given by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday.
AG Department spokesperson State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said that revision application would be filed as soon as the AG receives a copy of the MC order.
The two defendants were released on surety bail of Rs 500,000 each, eight days after they were placed under arrest.
Both men had been in hospital since the day of their arrest, the IGP at the Police Hospital in Colombo and Fernando at the National Hospital.
The AG on 1 July directed the acting IGP toproduce the two in court, saying heconsidered the contents of thereport dated 7 June 2019 of the “Special Board of Inquiry Appointed to inquire into the Series of Incidents Related to the Explosions that occurred at Several Places in the Island on 21 April, 2019,”and there is sufficient evidencethatJayasundaraand Fernando committed offensesfor which they can be punished under Sections 296, 298,327, 328, 329and 410of the Penal Code.
The two men, the AG said, grossly neglected their duties which led to the 21 April terror attacks.
