Sri Lanka Tourism yesterday disclosed that 90 new hotel projects with an investment of $ 1.4 billion and 2,242 rooms are being processed for approval.
The dedicated clearing facility Unit for National Investment in Tourism providing one stop service had already approved 99 hotel projects for construction.
These, along with those being processed, bring the total to 189 applications, commanding a room strength of 10,750 with an envisaged investment of $ 1.78 billion, Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa said. Set up as a brainchild of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa to fast-track issues, he has allocated an open day monthly to meet investors. See also Page 9
