Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake said that the Government has decided to recruit 7,500 graduates to fill the vacancies in the public sector institutions.
Though the Cabinet has already taken a decision in this regard, recruitments would be made after the election due on 17August.
Under the program of providing employment to graduates, all those who obtained their degree certificate before March 2012 were recruited to the public sector and those who could not apply during this period due to reasons beyond their control had made a request to the new Government to consider their applications too.
It has been estimated that there are about 7,500 such graduatesand since the elections have been declared, Minister Karunanayake said they would be recruited to fill the vacancies already identified in the public sector soon after the elections.
“In the past graduates, recruited were posted to divisional secretariat offices throughout the country where there were no vacancies or even a chair to sit for them. But once these graduates are recruited, unlike the past, they will be posted to fill the vacancies already identified in various public sector offices in the country,” Karunanayake said.
These graduates will be first appointed as graduate trainees for a period of one year and later absorbed as development officers.
