SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa

Opposition Leader and MP Sajith Premadasa yesterday claimed the Government is attempting to suppress public protests using the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), adding that the SJB would not allow this to happen.
He said over 600 lawyers are on standby to represent members of the public who may become victims of State suppression.
He also noted that people have begun rising against the misdeeds of the current regime and asking for democratic change, adding that the Opposition will stand by the people during any attempts by the Government to stifle the democratic process.
Premadasa said the country has fallen into a state of anarchy and the Government has no understanding of the hardships faced by the public.
He also said the President and the Government must resign for dragging the country into its current situation and make way for a Government that could manage the situation.
“Legal support will be offered free-of-charge to any person who is victim to State suppression irrespective of any party or political affiliations,” he added.
