The Government has decided to source $ 33.2 million (nearly Rs. 7 billion) funding from the Kuwait Fund for Arabic Economic Development to set up the Medical Faculty of the University of Moratuwa.
A decision to this effect was made by the Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday based on a proposal from the Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Moratuwa University’s latest faculty aspires to be innovative in teaching and create for the students a vibrant learning environment. It is the only faculty in the country to have a Department of Medical Technology, which is a new addition to Sri Lankan medical education.
The Technology for Medicine stream is novel and has been incorporated to the curriculum with a vision to promote the development of new technology offering better and more cost-effective healthcare solutions, according to the Moratuwa University.
