Veteran banker Narangoda appointed Chairman of George Steuart Finance

George Steuart Finance PLC today announced that it has appointed eminent banker Eastman Narangoda as its new Chairman. He takes the place of Prof. Arjuna De Silva who has served GS Finance since 2010. Prof. De Silva stepped down to focus on his academic interests. Narangoda is the former Chairman of Seylan Bank PLC, a position he held from 2009 till March 2012. Previously he was the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of the National Savings Bank for five years having served the bank in several capacities since 1975. His wealth of experience is backed by a BA Special Degree in Economics specialising in Banking and Currency from the University of Peradeniya.

During his career Narangoda has held various positions such as President of the Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka (2005/2006), Director/Vice Chairman of Financial Ombudsman (Sri Lanka) Ltd., Director of NSB Fund Management Co., Asha Central Hospital Ltd., Mercantile Leasing Ltd. and Director of Wealth Trust Corporation Ltd. He is also a council member/fellow of the Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Development. At present he serves on the Board of Directors of Easwaran Brothers, Deshodaya Finance Company and Asset Trust Management Ltd. George Steuart Finance PLC is a Finance Company registered with the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka under Finance Business Act No. 42 of 2011. The company has been in business for seven years having first commenced operations in 2005 as ‘Asia Commerce Limited’. GS Finance operates seven branches across the island, the most recent being in Kandy and Kurunegala.
