M. K. Lalith Fernando has been appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director yesterday to the board of Sanasa Development Bank (SDB).
The move comes subsequent to the retirement of D. P Kumarage who was a Non-Executive Director in a Non Independent capacity, appointment of D. J. K Newunhella as an Independent Non-Executive Director and the designation of Prof. Sampath Amaratunge as an Independent Director at SDB earlier this year.
Fernando counts 46 years of banking experience under his belt of which 16 years were in operations, 18 years in corporate and wholesale banking and 10 years in risk management. Moreover during his tenure as a member of corporate management for a period of 19 years in four local banks he further polished his banking skills.
Fernando kicked off his career with Grindlays bank, now known as Standard Chartered Bank and worked for 31 years holding several top positions including Head of Corporate Banking and Chief Operating Officer (COO).
During his four-year stint at People’s Bank he proved his worth as a member of a new team of professionals and headed the personal banking, corporate and commercial banking development pillars.
Fernando then moved into risk management with Nations Trust Bank (NTB) where he took the reins of the credit risk management section of the bank for four years. His final phase as a professional banker was with Pan Asia Bank (PAB) as the Chief Risk Officer, a position he held until his retirement in January this year.
