Standard Chartered adds Sri Lanka for Global Research Briefing 2016

Standard Chartered’s Global Research Team is visiting Sri Lanka as part of its Global Research Briefing 2016 later this month. 

Standard Chartered’s key economic researchers Sarah Hewin (Chief Economist, Europe), David Mann (Chief Economist, Asia), Anubhuti Sahay (Head, South Asia Economic Research) and Divya Devesh (Asia FX Strategist) will present their views at a session entitled ‘Retreat, Regroup, Rebound’ on the global, regional and local economy along with FX implications.

The program in Sri Lanka will include Sarah Hewin speaking on the ‘Global Economic Outlook – Retreat, Regroup, Rebound,’ David Mann on an ‘Asia Outlook – Looking inward for growth,’ Anubhuti Sahay presenting a ‘Sri Lanka Outlook – Twin deficits to remain large,’ and Divya Devesh commenting on the ‘Global FX Outlook – Glass half empty, or half full’. The session will be moderated by Dave Murray, Head, Global Research.

Sarah Hewin, Chief Economist, Europe, leads research on European economies, including Western and emerging Europe, and has many years of experience covering G7 and emerging-market macroeconomic, investment and country-risk issues. Sarah frequently broadcasts on TV for the BBC, Sky, CNBC and Bloomberg, and on radio for the BBC and Bloomberg. Before joining Standard Chartered, Sarah was a senior economist at American Express Bank based in London, New York and Hong Kong, and worked at Lloyds Bank and at the European Commission in Brussels. She read economics at Girton College, Cambridge, specialising in international economics. Sarah is a member of the CityUK’s Independent Economists Group and sits on the Secretary of State’s Panel on Monitoring the Economy.

David Mann, Chief Economist, Asia, oversees macroeconomic views for North and Southeast Asia. He manages economists based in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. David is a founding member of the Standard Chartered FX Strategy team, and while based in New York, he was responsible for covering the US economy, managing the Latin America team and providing clients with the bank’s view on Asia in the US time zone. David appears regularly in the media. He holds a BSc in economics from the University of Warwick and an MSc in finance from the University of London (Birkbeck College).

Divya Devesh, Asia FX Strategist, covers South and Southeast Asia FX strategy, and provides views on the latest developments in FX markets and recommends trade ideas. He also contributes regularly to media coverage of financial-market developments. Divya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

Anubhuti Sahay, Head, South Asia Economic Research, provides macroeconomic research for Standard Chartered’s India economics team and has been with the Securities and Exchange Board of India covering policy research, and was an analyst covering southern European companies for Morgan Stanley Capital International. She holds a Master’s in economics from the Delhi School of Economics.

Dave Murray, Head, Global Research, is responsible for leading Standard Chartered’s Global Research team to provide insightful, relevant research analysis and views across the Bank’s coverage footprint. Global Research is strongly positioned to inform, advise and partner with the bank’s clients across the macroeconomic, fixed income, currency and commodity disciplines. Prior to joining the Bank, Dave was with Deutsche Securities for 16 years in diverse roles including Head of Emerging Markets Equity Research and Head of Company Research (AsiaPac). Dave holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a CFA charterholder. He is also a member of the South Africa Institute of Chartered Accountants. Dave will be moderating the Global Research Briefing sessions in Sri Lanka and Jakarta.
