With 29 years of experience functioning as a specialised training institute the Sri Lanka Institute of Credit Management (SLICM) stands tall as the only professional body in Sri Lanka accredited to offer a professional qualification in Credit Management.
Today (21 July) SLICM will hold its 20th annual convocation ceremony at the Centre for Banking Studies premises in Rajagiriya. The convocation will witness the awarding of diplomas and certificates of excellence and other academic awards to 128 of their students.
The recipients of these awards are those who have successfully completed the Advanced Professional Diploma Course, the Professional Diploma Course, the Certificate Course in Micro Credit Management, Executive Diploma in Islamic Credit Management or the Executive Diploma in Marketing Credit instruments.
Established in 1988 the primary task of the institute (SLICM) was to cater to the growing need for training and indoctrination in the field of finance and management of credit by providing a professional qualification in credit management. SLICM has evolved over the years and have produced over 1,500 professionals equipped with a professional qualification in Credit management and having a sound knowledge of credit practices.
In 2012 SLICM appointed Asian International Academy Ltd. as their accredited teaching partner.
One of the unique characteristics that ensured SLICM’s continued dominance in the academic field of credit management is the constant evaluation and modification of its training programs to suit the changing training needs and skill sets of the industry. It has evolved from having utilised traditional tutoring processes during the early years of the institute to adopting modern computer based lecturing methodologies such as online learning platform; all the while undertaking continuous appraisal and modification of the syllabi to ensure that they are relevant and up to date. SLICM has continuously embraced the dynamic nature of the corporate world and constantly kept abreast of what potential employers would look for when hiring professionals in the field of credit and has structured and designed their academic courses in such a manner that the individuals who pass out from the institute are not merely having a paper qualification but is well equipped to serve and cater to the growing demands of the industry.
One of the many innovative steps undertaken by the institute is the introduction of the three–tier pathway to obtaining an Associate status of SLICM. The platform comprises of the initial commencement with the Diploma in Credit Management after which the candidate could be proceed to the Advanced Diploma In Credit Management; on completion of which the student can undertake an industry specific research project. Upon the successful conclusion of the research project the candidate would be eligible to apply for Associate membership of SLICM which would enable him/her to use the title AICM – SL. An Associate member of Sri Lanka Institute of credit management is also provided with the opportunity to apply for Associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Credit management UK.
In addition to the main academic courses in Credit Management, the institute has also introduced a number of other courses specifically targeting different areas of the credit industry, thereby having a very versatile and wide ranging portfolio of courses. The Executive Diploma in Islamic Credit, the Certificate in Micro Credit and the Executive Diploma in Marketing Credit Instruments to name a few.
The 20th Annual Convocation that is scheduled to be held later on today is due to commence at 5 p.m. and will be graced by Professor Sampath Amaratunga, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura who will preside as the Chief Guest. The convocation is expected to be attended by professionals in the field of credit management, academics, council members of Sri Lanka Institute of Credit Management and CEOs of leading financial institutions in Sri Lanka. The evening has been designed to recognise and reward the academic excellence of their students in the field of Credit Management.
From its courageous and farsighted beginnings in 1988, SLICM has now undoubtedly become the recognised leader in providing high quality accredited training in credit management in Sri Lanka today.
