The Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council (SLSC) attached to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will hold an Awareness Seminar on the current status of S-VAT (Simplified Value Added Tax Scheme) on 29 March at 2.30p.m. at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Auditorium, No. 50 Nawam Mawatha, Colombo 2.
It organised by the SLSC in collaboration with Sri Lanka Inland Revenue Department (IRD) to create higher awareness among the stakeholders in the industry, in view of the vital role played by the Export and Import Sector towards achieving strong economic growth.
IRD Commissioner General Mallika Samarasekera, S-VAT Commissioner J.P.D. R. Jayasekara, S-VAT Deputy Commissioner Deepani Herath together with other key officials of IRD will speak on the success of S-VAT since implementation on 1 April 2011, the issues that came up after implementation and the solutions provided by IRD, benefits to exporters and to others in the trade, IRD’s strategy to support the trade through S-VAT and future plans.
The Council invites all stakeholders in the S-VAT system, importers, exporters, financial controllers, financial divisions and other operational staff to understand both the current and future positions and also to clear all problematic and unclear areas of the SVAT scheme after implementation. The seminar will be followed by a Q&A session.
