Under a project launched by Sampath Bank in mid-2012, Small and Medium scale Entrepreneurs in Valachchenai and Eravur in the Batticaloa District are being provided with facilities to revive small businesses which were badly affected by the north east war.

The project, started with the assistance and cooperation of CEFE and GIZ, concentrates on widows who have been orphaned by the war.
Sampath Bank has provided assistance by way creating awareness on the basics of starting up a business and the planning process. After providing technical know-how, they have been given financial assistance to buy the necessary equipment either to start fresh ventures or re-start ones which had been neglected due to the war situation.
Further, a group of 35 entrepreneurs followed a training program on accounting at a workshop held on 9 December 2012 in Valachchenai facilitated by CEFE.
