With an aim of enhancing its financial services for the benefit of the people of Kandy, the People’s Bank Service Centre was unveiled as a fully-fledged branch on the first floor of the Kandy City Centre recently. Equipped with an array of facilities, the new branch will offer customers a better banking experience coupled with superior service and new-age technology.
The new branch was unveiled under the patronage of the Senior Minister of International Monetary Co-operation and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of the Governor of the Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Mayor of Kandy Mahendra Ratwatte, District Secretary of Kandy Gamini Seneviratne, Chairman of People’s Bank W. Karunajeewa, member of the Board of Directors of People’s Bank Dr. D.J.D Jayakodi, the corporate and executive management of the bank along with the staff and a large number of customers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sarath Amunugama expressed his satisfaction of being a part of the opening of a branch of People’s Bank in a popular location, in both the country and in Kandy. He also applauded the efforts of People’s Bank who continues to support widespread development in the country.
He added that since saving is an important factor for the development of a country, all banks should take the responsibility to instill and improve the habit of saving amongst the people and this would be of greater significance for than personal growth and development of the country.
Commenting at the ceremony, Chairman of People’s Bank W. Karunajeewa stated that a program based on improving the banking experience of customers by offering convenient financial services was in progress and that it was in the wake of this initiative that the new branch was being unveiled, bringing an unsurpassed service to the people of Kandy.
He further went on to say that People’s Bank was established in 1961 and currently has 724 branches and service centres while possessing over 400 ATMs island-wide that function throughout the day.
