People’s Bank expands mobile banking network with Etisalat

People’s Bank, Sri Lanka’s largest branch network, is further enhancing and enabling customer convenience by expanding its mobile banking network to the Etisalat customer base, further empowering over four million customers. #488# allows People’s Bank customers to have access on the go to most of the bank facilities without the hassle of having to travel to a bank branch. The improved mobile banking service includes inquiry of account balances and history utility payments, fund transfers, cheque transaction details and cheque book ordering, to name a few. With no registration or annual fee, People’s Bank customers can now enjoy both security and efficiency in carrying out transactions from wherever they are through the Etisalat networks. People’s Bank Chief Executive Officer/General Manager N. Vasantha Kumar, commenting on the union, said: “We are very happy about the partnership we have embarked on with Etisalat and I strongly believe that is only the beginning of a very strong relationship between our two organisations. Our mobile banking services allows our customers to access a range of everyday banking transactions from the convenience of their mobile, be it a smart or non-smart phone, by just dialling #488# on an Etisalat connection. Services include checking the last five transactions, exchange rates and requesting for pawning settlements.” Etisalat Lanka Deputy CEO Riyaaz Rasheed said: “This partnership with People’s Bank allows Etisalat to enter into the financial services space. The world is ever changing at a dynamic speed and the humble mobile phone is now moving into the world of transactional based services. We as a telecom provider need to keep in pace with global and local technology advancements. At the same time customers across the globe are looking for banking and transactional services via mobile phones and with People’s Bank we are able to provide this service to the customer to make their banking transactions easy and convenient.” People’s Bank Acting Head of IT Sobhitha Weerasekara speaking of the services offered by People’s Bank Mobile Banking said: “Facilities available in our mobile service comprise of all main transactions such as transfer funds between accounts, to another bank, bill payments, list of transactions etc. with SMS alerts. The bank is also inventing significantly to uplift its IT infrastructure to facilitate more m-commerce transactions which will make the mobile a powerful channel for any type of transaction.” People’s Bank Deputy General Manager (Retail Banking) Renuka Jayasinghe speaking about the banking convenience said: “We are constantly striving to create convenient and secure bank solutions for our customers and that is why we continuously update our mobile banking systems. These systems allow our customers to carry out all banking transactions across the island at any time.” The agreement was signed at the People’s Bank Head Office. Present for the signing from the Etisalat team were Deputy CEO Riyaaz Rasheed, Senior Manager Digital Services Channa Munasinghe, Manager M Commerce/New Business Development Daminda Edirisinghe, Product Specialist M Commerce Nadeeja Wijesinghe and Senior Executive Marketing Shimla Eliyas. Representing the team from People’s Bank was Chief Executive Officer/General Manager N. Vasantha Kumar, Senior Deputy General Manager (Risk Management Sabry Ibrahim, Head of Marketing and Public Affairs Deepal Abeysekara, Deputy General Manager (Retail Banking) Renuka Jayasinghe, Deputy General Manager (Operations) Boniface Silva, Acting Head of IT Sobhitha Weerasekara and Manager (Electronic Banking) Thushara Hinguralarachchi.
