The Association of Professional Bankers (APB) Sri Lanka, has elected National Savings Bank (NSB) General Manager/CEO H.M. Hennayake Bandara as the 24th President at the Annual General Meeting held recently in Colombo.
The President elect Hennayake Bandara is a Chartered Accountant and has extensive experience in the banking and financial services. Hennayake is a member of the Expert Group appointed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to provide expertise to Registered Finance Companies (RFC) and Specialised Leasing Companies (SLC). He is also a Director of NSB Fund Management Co. Ltd. and a Board Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL).
He has also held the positions of the President of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL), Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), Board Member of Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board (SLAASMB), Council Member of Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) and Technical Advisor and Committee Member of Professional Accountants in Business of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA).
The APB, established in 1988, is the most representative organisation of banking professionals in the country and it has functioned as a forum that brings together leading personalities in business and intellectual discussion in the contemporary banking industry.
The new President in his inauguration speech emphasised the importance of incorporation of the Association by an act of Parliament as a fitting tribute to the Association which completes 25 years in 2013. He also elaborated on his ambitious plans for APB including increased representation and involvement by industry people and enhanced affiliations with professional organisations.
APB also elected a new Council comprising 17 members who occupy the foremost positions in the Banks of Sri Lanka such as Sampath Bank Managing Director Aravinda Perera as Snr.
Vice President, Hatton National Bank DGM (Services) Piyal Hennayake and People’s Bank Head of Marketing and Public Affairs Deepal Abeysekera as Vice Presidents, HSBC Head of Cards and Consumer Assets Nadeesha Senaratne as Secretary General and Sampath Bank Chief Manager Corporate Finance and FCBU Shashi Kandambi Jassim as Treasurer.
