NDB opened its latest branch in Elpitiya in a bid to support the economic and livelihood development in the area. With this opening, NDB branch network has now grown to 72, signalling a steady continuation of the bank’s aggressive expansion strategy.
Elpitiya, now easily accessible via the Southern Expressway, is well known for its finest production of cinnamon and low grown tea. Tea, rubber, cinnamon and rice are amongst the thriving produce in the area. There are more than a dozen tea factories and one rubber factory in the region along with a number of small plantations giving life to the growing economy of the town. Elpitiya, which is which has a rich heritage of the plantation industry, has gradually developed to its current stage; becoming one of the most promising towns in the district displaying fast expansion and great potential to contribute to the economic development of Sri Lanka.
With the opening of its latest branch, NDB opened its doors to the aspiring entrepreneurs and businessmen in Elpitiya to benefit from the many customised SME financing facilities and advisory services. With its expertise and knowledge in SME financing, the Bank offers a range of SME banking solutions; including short term working capital loans, supplier and distributor finance and long term funding which will be beneficial to the farmers, small and medium tea cultivators and estate owners as well as traders, distributors and other proprietors in the area.
With its new branch in Elpitiya, NDB will also focus on developing the micro entrepreneurs and cottage industrialists in the region through its livelihood development scheme ‘DiviAruna,’ which promotes financial inclusion for the smaller enterprises in a bid to develop and upgrade them towards the SME sector. The bank laid an initial step towards this long term endeavour in the region with the distribution of Divi Aruna Micro Finance Loan Schemes to 14 deserving individuals manufacturing treacle and treacle related products as well as small scale tea growers at a special ceremony held subsequent to the unveiling of the new branch.
