NDB opened its landmark 100th branch in Hingurakgoda in a bid to support the economic and livelihood development in the Polonnaruwa District, of the North Central Province, signalling a steady continuation of the bank’s aggressive expansion strategy. The branch was officially declared opened by NDB CEO Rajendra Theagarajah along with the patronage of the NDB Leadership Team and all 100 NDB Branch Managers.
Hingurakgoda is a city with renowned opulence and a rich heritage. The fertile soil of Hingurakgoda gives life to bountiful crops of paddy that nourish the nation which makes it the main economic crop in this division. The abundance of the agricultural sustenance is highly depended on the strong irrigation systems through Minneriya, Girithale and Kaudulla. The rich cultural heritage and the pristine beauty of Hingurakgoda have created many entrepreneurial opportunities for the residents in the area. In line with this milestone of the bank a series of community development projects were carried out in the region. To mark this landmark all 100 Branch Managers from around the island and Regional Managers took part in a tree planting project where 100 seedlings were planted by themselves at the Vidyaloka Primary School and along the Hingurakgoda-Polonnaruwa Road also known as the Hathmunai Junction.
A SME workshop was carried out to the business community where a wealth of knowledge on the bank’s SME and Leasing services were discussed. The NDB Shilpa Peya programme was conducted for primary school kids to inculcate the good habit of saving. A Library Book donation was also carried out at the Vidyaloka Primary School Hingurakgoda.
NDB also intends to carry out a Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) clinic for the Hingurakkgoda community in the near future. The NDB HR Team will also be carrying out a recruitment drive on 11 June at the Central College in Anuradhapura as an effort to offer the aspiring youth a successful career in the banking industry. The bank also presented 100 micro loans to 100 customers at the new Branch Premises.
