The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) conducted in association with Shippers’ Academy – Colombo a Seminar on the Simplified (Suspended) VAT Scheme (announced in the Budget 2011) last week at the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) Auditorium.
The Auditorium was filled to capacity with 210 participants. Sarath de Silva, President NCE in his welcome address acknowledged the contribution of the resource persons & panelists to the seminar.
He also thanked the participants who attended the Seminar.
Mallika Samarasekera, Deputy Commissioner General, Department of Inland Revenue in her address gave an overview of the scheme.
Thereafter Deepani Herath, Deputy Commissioner – VAT, Department of Inland Revenue made a presentation on the guidelines and procedures related to the scheme.
The participants were given an opportunity to clarify issues during a question & answer session which was moderated by Dr. Jagath Peiris, Senior Vice President of NCE. Several participants clarified issues related to the scheme during this session.
The Panelists for the question and answer session were Samarasekera, Deputy Commissioner General of the Department of Inland Revenue, Herath, Deputy Commissioner – VAT of the Department of Inland Revenue, Ajantha Dias – Senior Deputy Director General of the Department of Customs, Somasiri Alwis – Director Finance of the Department of Customs, and Suresh Perera – Principal - Tax & Regulatory of KPMG Ford Rhodes
