Minister of Public Enterprises Development Hon. Kabir Hashim, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Enterprises Development Ravindra Hewavitharana and other dignitaries visited the Sri Lanka Insurance Head Office at Vauxhall Street, Colombo on 13 October. They were welcomed by Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance Hemaka Amarasuriya, Joint Managing Director T.M.R. Bangsa Jayah and the senior management.
Addressing the Sri Lanka Insurance employees at the auditorium, Minister Hashim said he wants to emphasise to them that the Government has no intention of privatising the insurance giant. “There are many misconceptions that my Ministry is all about selling and privatising State assets. This is not the case at all and I want to assure all of you that this organisation will not be privatised under this government headed by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe,” he said.
The Minister also said that with improved efficiency and productivity on the part of the organisation’s employees, Sri Lanka Insurance can provide an even better service to its customers and be in competition with the private sector so that it benefits both customers and employees. “We plan to increase the profits of the organisation by three times within the next few years,” he said.
