Veteran banker Manik Nagahawatte passed away on Sunday. A private funeral was held yesterday and his remains handed over to the medical faculty as per his wishes.
At the time of his death Nagahwatta was the Chairman of NDB Bank, a position he held since January 2008. Prior to joining the NDB Bank, he was the Senior Legal Advisor of the Ministry of Finance and Planning and served as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank where he had a career of over 30 years.
He held several senior positions at the Central Bank including the Chairman of the Monetary Board and Controller of Exchange. Nagahawatte also served as Chairman of the Bank of Ceylon, Chairman of Credit Information Bureau and Commissioner of Securities Exchange Commission.
