The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) initiated a series of Investor Day programs themed ‘Insight for Investing,’ which are been conducted to create awareness and educate investors and the general public about the CSE.
The CSE Investor Day programs concluded recently were in Kadawatha, Malabe and Mathugama. The programs attracted a wide group of potential investors which gave them a comprehensive understanding about the stock market.
Kadawatha
There were over 900 participants who consisted of potential Investors and students that visited the Investor Day Program held on 10 October at Nikado City Reception Hall.
“The Investor Day Program is beneficial for both investors and students,” stated by W. Abeyasinghe, a commerce teacher at Mahamaya Balika College, Kadawatha. He further stated that the program gave a comprehensive understanding about the stock exchange before investing and as a commerce teacher, it gave him a practical understanding of the stock market.
D.D.C Jayathunga, a Government official stated that he wanted to know more about the stock exchange and was content with the level of understanding and knowledge that he got from the Investor Day Program.
Malabe
The Investor Day Program in Malabe which was held on 12 October 2012 at the Divisional Secretariat Office, Malabe, had attracted over 542 potential investors and students. Educational presentations were carried throughout the day where participants clarified there queries with regard to investing in the stock market.
G. A Ranasinghe who is a private sector employee was a little apprehensive about investing in the stock market after what has been said in the press but soon realised when listening to the presentations that the fluctuations in the market is a temporary phenomenon.
P. K Chandrasiri stated that he understood the importance of long-term investment perspective with the stock exchange, rather than trying to trade looking at the short-term perspective.
Mathugama
Participants who took part in the Investor Day Program held on 16 October 2012 at the Pradeshiya Sabha auditorium were very interested in understanding the different options of investing in the stock market.
The Investor Day program was attended by 673 participants and students from the commerce stream, who gained a wide understanding of the CSE. This was the first time CSE organised an Investor Day program in Mathugama, where tea plantation owners from small and medium Enterprises also participated.
D.M Manjula was interested to note that as the small investor, who is also a risk-averse investor, had the option of investing in unit trusts, which was something that he learned on that day and understood.
Further programs
The next Investor Day programs scheduled for the month will be held on tomorrow and on 25 October, at the Panadura and Horana town halls respectively.
