Insurance Board gets new DG

Chandri Gunawardhana yesterday assumed duties as the Director General of Insurance Board of Sri Lanka (IBSL).

Gunawardhana is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court and a holder of Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in Commercial Law from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.

With over 20 years experience in regulatory compliance, public relations and legal functions, he was a member of the Legislative sub-Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka Insurance Institute, Insurance Lawyers Association of Singapore and the Australian Insurance Lawyers Association in addition to memberships in a number of professional organisations.

Prior to appointment as the Director General of IBSL, Gunawardhana was the Principal Consultant at Global Business Counselling, Singapore, the Regional Head of Regulatory Affairs for a multinational FMCG in Asia Pacific Region and Head of the insurance law division at the law firm Julius & Creasy.

Gunawardhana has provided legal services and consultancy to many multi-national organisations within and outside Sri Lanka on insurance law and regulatory compliance. Further, he has published Articles in national and international journals.
