Indian Bank to open three more branches in Sri Lanka

Chennai-based Indian Bank plans to open three more branches in Sri Lanka within the next year. Indian Bank Chairman and Managing Director T. M. Bhasin has said the new branches will be opened in Trincomalee and Batticaloa in the Eastern Province and Hambantota in the Southern Province. The new branches will be opened by June 2014, the Chairman has said. The official told Indian media that he will be visiting Sri Lanka to meet the Indian High Commissioner in Colombo on 27 August regarding the opening of branches. According to the Chairman Indian Bank already has two branches operating in the island at Colombo and Jaffna since 2011. The Indian Bank recently received the approval from India’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of India, to open the three branches, two of them in Tamil dominated areas of Sri Lanka.
