The International Fiscal Association Sri Lanka (IFASL) branch will hold a seminar on Taxation at the Hotel Ramada on 7 August from 9a.m. to 100 p.m.
The objective of the seminar will be for the participants to receive firsthand information about the amendments to the Inland Revenue Act, Value Added Tax Act and other Acts arising from the 2012 Budget.
The speakers and the panellists will analyse and discuss the most recent fiscal amendments and the consequential effects on taxpayers. The keynote address will be delivered by Inland Revenue Commissioner General Mallika Samarasekera.
Department of Inland Revenue Deputy Commissioner D.R.S Hapuarachchi will speak on ‘Amendments to the Inland Revenue Act and Economic Service Charge Act’; Ministry of Finance and Planning, Department of Fiscal Policy Tax Advisor Dhammika Gunatilaka will speak on ‘Amendments to the Value Added Tax Act and Nation Building Tax Act’ and KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton & Co Attorney-at-Law Suresh Perera will speak on ‘Critical Evaluation of Major Fiscal Amending Enactments Arising from Budget’.
There will be a panel discussion involving Department of Inland Revenue Deputy Commissioner General H.B.A Seneviratne and ECI Tax Chambers (Pvt) Ltd. Director Denzil A. Rodrigo The moderator of the seminar will be IFASL Chairman N. R. Gajendran. “It will be a unique opportunity for the participants to obtain firsthand clarifications from the Speakers and Panellists who have authority in the field of taxation,” according to IFASL.
The International Fiscal Association (IFA) was established in 1938 with its headquarters in Nertherlands. It is the only non-governmental and non-sectoral international organisation dealing with fiscal matters. Membership of IFA now stands at more than 12,000 from 103 countries. In 62 countries, IFA members have established IFA branches. Direct membership is possible in countries where there is no IFA branch as yet.
