The Faculty of Taxation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) has organised its Annual Tax Oration on 14 October 2010 at 6 p.m. at the institute’s auditorium.
It is the 15th consecutive year that the institute will be organising this event. This year’s oration will be on the theme ‘Political Economy of Taxation and Tax Reforms’. The Keynote Speaker at the event will be Professor W. D. Lakshman, Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Taxation.
Prof. Lakshman is the Head of the Department of Economics, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo in a career spanning more than four decades.
Considered to be more than just an academic, he is also known as one of the country’s foremost economists and serves on the Advisory Council on Economics to the President. He is also the President of the Council of the Colombo Plan for Cooperative Economic and Social Development in Asia and the Pacific.
The medallion for this event as in all the preceding events comes from Esmond Satarasinghe, founder Member of the ICASL Council and Former Chairman/Managing Director of Brooke Bond (Cey) Ltd.
ICASL established its Faculty of Taxation in 1995 headed by R.N. Asirwatham as Chairman, with the objective of assisting members to further the knowledge and practice in taxation. The faculty organises various events hosted by eminent professionals to share knowledge on subjects related to taxation and tax oration is one of the key events.
