In addition, IBSL is now in the process of constructing 12-story state-of-the-art building, to provide better learning facilities to its clients. Dr. Abeyratne was instrumental in initiating and achieving those progressive elements at the IBSL. During his tenure, on behalf the IBSL management, he  has  submitted a proposal to the Minister of Higher Education and the University Grants Commission to obtain degree awarding status to the IBSL as there has been continuous demand from IBSL student members. This request has been considered favourably by the high-powered UGC team and only few conditions have to be fulfilled as per the UGC recommendation to elevate IBSL as degree awarding institute and it will become a reality in the near future. The IBSL hopes to celebrate its golden jubilee, having archived with those targets in 2015.
