Ramal Jasinghe, President of the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL) together with the Office Bearers of IASL met Dr. P. B. Jayasundera, Secretary to the Treasury on 16 June 2011.
The growing trend experienced by the nation’s economy and the large scale foreign investors attracted by the country were discussed at this meeting. Dr. Jayasundara invited the insurance industry to come forward with their suggestions & insights to strengthen the contribution of the insurance industry towards the economy for the forthcoming budget proposals.
“The meeting which took place on the 16 June is the first step towards an ongoing dialog we wish to maintain between IASL and the Treasury; we are confident of the support from the Secretary to the Treasury in this regard”, the President of the IASL stated. Jasinghe further elaborated on the plans of repositioning IASL in line with Governments current plans of developing the natural economy which is currently in progress.
The IASL is of the view that the cooperation & insights provided by the Secretary to the Treasury strengthen the levels of confidence among insurers and as an industry enable them to align with and support the development efforts of the Government.
The office bearers of IASL namely Mr. Ramal Jasinghe, President (Director/CEO – Asian Alliance Insurance), Prakash Schaffter, Vice President (Managing Director – Janashakthi Insurance) and Upali Samarasinghe, Secretary General attended this meeting.
