Hatton National Bank (HNB), the premier private sector commercial bank, opened its 194th Customer Centre in Chankanai recently.

The customer centre was opened amidst a rare traditional dance form named ‘Kiramiya Nadanam’ performed by a talented young group representing the area. The colourful event, which was a blend of culture, aesthetic value and performance coming in unison as one, was the cynosure of all who had gathered to participate in the ceremonial opening.

The dance form witnessed on this day is a popular dance form performed in rural areas in the northern part of Sri Lanka in the good old days which is a rarity now.

Chankanai is an ancient cultural town famous for bullock carts where it is believed that every household owned one such cart in the days gone by and is also a very popular area for agriculture.

Chief Operating Officer of HNB Jonathan Alles ceremonially declared open the customer centre amidst a distinguished gathering of invitees which included Crysanthi Thambiah, Deputy General Manager – Network Management, HNB, Reshanka Abayasekara, Asst. General Manager – Correspondent Banking & International Operations, HNB and a large number of longstanding customers of HNB from the area.

The new Chankanai Customer centre is fully equipped to provide customers with easy and convenient access to all banking facilities.

Speaking on this occasion the chief guest Alles said Hatton National Bank had never been an opportunistic bank but has always stood by the people of north and east during times of sunshine and rain.

Through the extensive presence in the Jaffna peninsula which is further strengthened with the opening of Chankanai Customer centre, the bank will be focusing to serve the fledgling SME sector in the area and at the same time introduce people to the wide array of personal financial services the bank is famous for.

With the Chankanai customer centre, HNB now operate nine customer centres in the Jaffna Peninsula.
