Long-standing D.M. Gunasekara will assume duties as the new General Manager of the Bank of Ceylon today.
He succeeds K Dharmasiri, who retires today.
Prior to new appointment Gunasekara was the Deputy General Manager Retail Banking whilst previously he was made the Deputy General Manager (Sales & Channel Management) in October 2010. He was the Assistant General Manager in Charge of corporate banking operations from November 2006 to October 2010.
He joined Bank of Ceylon in December 1983. Counting over 27 years experience in banking, Gunasekara has specialized knowledge in credit evaluation and credit administration. He has extensive experience in lending to Sri Lankan corporate and also for offshore business activities. Served for 3 years from 1997 to 2000 in Bank of Ceylon London branch where he obtained a comprehensive experience in international banking activities. He serves as a member of various committees of the Bank such as Investment Committee, Credit Policy Committee, Marketing Committee, Asset and Liability Management Committee, HR Policy Committee, Risk Management Committee, Scholarship Committee and NPA Monitoring Committee.
He is a Non executive nominee Director of the Board of Ceybank Asset Management (Private) Limited and Ceybank Holiday Homes Ltd. He has made immense contribution towards the upliftment of the knowledge of other staff being as an Associate Faculty Member of Central Training Institute of the Bank. Gunasekara graduated from University of Colombo in 1981 with a Special Degree in Public Finance & Taxation. He is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka.
