The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) conducts many financial literacy programs targeting school children aimed at enhancing their knowledge on the capital market. This year the SEC conducted a television quiz program with the participation of Sinhala medium Advanced Level Commerce students at a Provincial level.
The finals of the television quiz was held on 25 September at the Independent Television Network (ITN). Tharuka Dakshika Kuruppu of Good Shepherd Convent Nuwara Eliya was placed first, Lasantha Kumara Edirisinghe from Dhammissara Madya Maha Vidyalaya Nattandiya was placed second and three students representing Nalanda College Colombo, Godauda Maha Vidyalaya, Kottegoda and Anuradhapura Madya Vidyalaya tied for third place. This Quiz program was conducted with the guidance and assistance of the Ministry of Education.
All government schools throughout the country offering Advanced Level Commerce in the Sinhala medium were invited to nominate one student each to take part in the quiz.
The preliminary selection examination for the Quiz Program was conducted in 12 examination centres around the country. The semi finals were a Provincial contest between six selected students and the winners of the semi-finals proceeded to the grand finals.
This nine-week half an hour quiz program will be telecast on ITN in the near future.
