Senior economist Dr. Saman Kelegama, Executive Director, Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka will be delivering a lecture on Debt Financed Investment, on 28 January at the Department of Economics Auditorium University of Colombo.
Dr. Kelegama has been working on this subject which had been a key development strategy adopted by the Government of Sri Lanka in the recent past and commented on the positive and negative aspects of this policy and strategy. He observed that borrowing from the international market is gradually becoming costlier now as global interest rates have been increasing. He added that the time has come for Sri Lanka to make the transition from a highly debt financed investment economy to an export-led and foreign direct investment driven economy.
The lecture is organised and sponsored by the Department of Economics of the University of Colombo and the Sri Lanka Economic Association.
