Provides ATM services to over 250,000 commuters a day
Thousands of rail commuters now have 24-hour access to Sri Lanka’s largest automated cash dispensing facility, following the installation of Commercial Bank ATMs at a dozen railway stations.
The Bank has to date installed two ATMs at the Fort Railway station and one apiece at Maradana, Ragama, Veyangoda, Gampaha, Kandy, Ganemulla, Kandana, Mirigama, Moratuwa, Panadura and Polgahawela. Over 250,000 commuters pass through these stations daily and the majority travel to work in the city.
“These offsite ATMs are widely used by commuters who do not have time to get to a branch ATM, and represent a significant enhancement of convenience to our customers,” said Mr. Palitha Perera, Commercial Bank’s Assistant General Manager, Operations.
He said Commercial Bank plans to install several more ATMs at busy railway stations in 2013, extending access to a wider customer segment.
In December last year, Commercial Bank’s ATM network country-wide dispensed a mammoth Rs 25.3 billion, establishing an all-time high for cash dispensed in a single month. The network processed a record 5.57 million transactions between 1st and 31st December, and issued more than a billion rupees in a day five times during the month.
These figures underline the robustness, capacity and reliability of the Commercial Bank’s ATM network.
Holders of Commercial Bank’s standard ATM cum Shopping Debit Cards can withdraw up to Rs 40,000 from the Bank’s ATMs per withdrawal. The Bank also offers customers the option of setting their own ATM withdrawal limits up to Rs 100,000 a day, and a point-of-sale limit of up to Rs 500,000. Besides railway stations, Commercial Bank has installed offsite ATMs at bus terminals, shopping malls, large factories and at the Katunayake Export Processing Zone. The Bank has also installed an ATM machine at the Canovin Arcade on the Southern Expressway to further improve public access to its ATM network.
The Bank is also a pioneer in introducing the holiday banking concept to the country, another channel that allows customers to do their banking outside normal banking hours. The Bank now has more than 60 holiday banking centres which benefit thousands of customers around the country.
