CIMA will be conducting a half-day workshop on ‘Intricacies of VAT on financial services’, which is scheduled to be held on Friday 22 March 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the CIMA Auditorium.
Speaking of the workshop, KPMG Sri Lanka Tax and Regulatory unit Principal and Workshop leader Suresh R.I. Perera said that the countries that have embraced the concept of tax on value addition, have not extended ‘VAT Net’ to financial services. “Sri Lanka perhaps is one of the unique countries that levy VAT on financial services.”
The content of the workshop includes scope of the chargeability, conditions for the chargeability, payments and returns, method of calculations of value addition (Tax credit method and attribution method) and financial VAT planning tips.
Perera is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK and an Attorney at Law of the supreme court of Sri Lanka.
