A career Central Banker Upali Hettiarachchi has been appointed as the General Manager/CEO of HDFC Bank with effect from 1 February.
The appointment is subject to the Bank receiving regulatory approval from the Central Bank.
With the latest appointment, the acting GM/CEO S. Dissanayake reverts to his earlier position at HDFC as Chief Operations Officer.
Hettiarachchi is released on secondment basis from Central Bank to the HDFC Bank.
He has an unblemished career of 32 years at the Central Bank in different disciplines. His distinctive academic profile includes two basic degrees - B.Com (Special) Degree from the University of Kelaniya and LLB from the Open University of Sri Lanka. Further to his professional forte as an Attorney-at-Law, he possesses an M.Com Degree as well.
Prior to joining the HDFC, Hettiarachchi was the Regional Manager of Southern Province Office from 2013 to 2016. He has wide experience having been a Senior Assistant Director/on-site Supervision Division of Non-Banking Supervision Department in 2013, a Senior Assistant Director/Off-site Surveillance Division of Non-Banking Supervision Department from 2012-2013, a Senior Assistant Director/Head of Project Finance Division/Regional Development Department from 2010-2012, a Senior Assistant Director/Head of Credit Guarantee Division - Regional Development Department from 2006-10, a Dealer/Assistant Director - International Operations Department, Central Bank from 2004-6, an Accountant in the Finance Department during 2002-4 at the Secretariat Department (1998-2000, at the EPF Department (1992-1998) and at the Provincial Office - Matara from 1982 to 1992.
His outstanding profile includes exposure to the public sector as a Coordinating Secretary (Parliamentary Affairs), Ministry of Finance and Planning during 1984-1989.
He was also a trainer of trainers and a Lecturer at the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka, in the subject of Introduction to Banking and Financial Law and Non-Banking Financial Business at the Intermediate Level in the Applied Banking and Finance stream.
