The much anticipated Islamic Finance News Roadshow will be inaugurated today by the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Ajith Nivaard Cabraal. The Governor will deliver the key note address at this forum which will also see the attendance of many other key officials of the Sri Lankan Islamic banking and finance industry.
Amana Bank, Sri Lanka’s premier bank to operate according to Islamic banking principles, has joined hands with the Malaysia based RedMoney group to bring the globally acclaimed IFN Roadshow to Sri Lanka.
The Roadshow is designed to assimilate all industry practitioners to one forum to discuss issues, challenges and potential of taking the industry forward. In addition to the Governor, some of the other regulatory speakers to share their sentiments of the local Islamic finance industry include: Mr. Ananda Silva - Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka; Ms. Yvette Fernando - Director Bank Supervision, Central Bank of Sri Lanka; Dhammika Nanayakkara - Superintendent of Public Debt, Central Bank of Sri Lanka; and R.S. Samaranayake – Deputy Commissioner, Department of Inland Revenue.
Also sharing their international experience at the Roadshow would be Neil Miller - Global Head Islamic Finance, KPMG; Badlisyah Abdul Ghani - Executive Director/CEO, CIMB Islamic Bank, Malaysia; Ikbal Daredia - Chief Executive Officer, Alkhair International Islamic Bank, Malaysia; Khurram Abdullah - Head of Capital Markets, Dar Al Sharia, Dubai Islamic Bank; and Hitesh Asarpota - Director, Capital Markets and Structured Finance, Emirates NBD Capital.
The diverse panellist will shed light on topics covering: Challenges and opportunities for Islamic finance in Sri Lanka, regulatory and tax updates, crucial steps in taking Sri Lanka’s Islamic finance capital market to the next level, and liquidity management for Sri Lankan Islamic financial institutions.
