The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), in partnership with the Australian Government, conducted an Investor Forum in Kandy at the Royal Kandyan Hotel as part of the series of events to celebrate the sixth World Investor Week (WIW) 2022, launched by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
The forum has been organised in line with the objective of the global campaign to raise awareness of the importance of investor education and investor protection.
The event attracted more than 150 participants, including existing and potential investors.
The forum provided valuable insights on investor education and investor protection.
SEC Director External Relations and Capital Market Education Tushara Jayaratne provided a basic knowledge on investments, the process of investing, the pros and cons of investing in the stock market whilst Madhawa Aramandeniya, an Executive of CSE Kandy Branch also had a session to create awareness on the CSE Mobile App.
Furthermore, some valuable insights on the importance of financial literacy were presented to the audience by Central Bank Matale Regional Manager Vineetha Herath whilst an analysis of the Sectoral Performance and Market Opportunities were presented by NDB Securities Ltd. Manager Research Niroshan De Silva.
A panel discussion was held with the participation of Tushara Jayaratne, Niroshan De Silva, Niroshan Wijesundere, and Vineetha Herath providing an opportunity for the participants to share knowledge and be educated on important aspects of investor education and protection.
Towards the end of the forum, participants were also given an opportunity to meet Investment Advisors of stockbroker firms and representatives of Unit Trust Management Companies.
More Investor Forums are scheduled to be conducted in Galle, Kurunegala, Jaffna, and Colombo, in the coming weeks of October and November with the intention of creating awareness of investor education and investor protection while highlighting the importance of financial literacy.
