The Sri Lanka Forex Association (SLFA) will host the most prestigious event in the global financial markets calendar, the 58th ACI Financial Markets Association World Congress from 3 to 5 October in Colombo.
The Congress will bring together a collective of influential financial market professionals, regional regulators, policy makers, think tanks, eminent thought leaders, investors and corporates to discuss the theme of the congress for this year, ‘Discovering the role of markets in the new paradigm’.
The expansive subjects for discussion at the plenary sessions will be led by a cohort of prominent financial market industry leaders. They will delve into leveraging on Asia and the New Silk Route, Crypto currency, Blockchain and other Fintech Innovations/Disruptions, AI and Machine Learning, BIX FX Global Code and the Global market outlooks for 2020 and beyond. The envisaged driving role Sri Lanka will play in financial markets for this region will also be discussed in depth in a session titled, ‘Sri Lanka – Gateway to South Asia’.
ACIFMA Chairman Bruno Langfritz who was in Sri Lanka as a precursor to the arrangements for October stated, “I’m thrilled to have Colombo hosting this very prestigious event in our calendar as it not only showcases the beauty of this magnificent island but also the important role it is slated to play in financial markets in this region, which to me will be one of the most crucial driving forces in regional financial markets in the future. SLFA President K. Shanaka C. Perera added that as Sri Lanka looks towards the future post some traumatic experiences in the recent months, this is certainly an absolute positive for the country in terms of highlighting that Sri Lankan MICE tourism too is also very much open for business. While the keynote address will be delivered by Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, the speakers include Minister of Economic Reform and Public Distribution Dr. Harsha de Silva, Legal FS Regulatory and Compliance Services and Head of Capital Markets of PWC Dr. Martin Liebi, Associate Professor Faculty of Business and Economics of University of Hong Kong Dr. Tuan Q. Phan, Global Economist Standard Chartered Bank David Mann, Executive Director Global Economics and Markets Research United Overseas Bank Suan Teck Kin, Managing Director, Chief Economist and Head of Research Asia Pacific Deutsche Bank Dr. Michael Spencer and Advisor to the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade and Council Member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Council on Innovation Eco Systems Anushka Wijesinha.
ACIFMA was founded in Paris in 1955 as Association Cambiste Internationale – the leading, global association of wholesale financial market professionals, contributing to the market development through education and certification, market practices (The Model Code), technical advice and networking events.
