The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) recently conducted the first Investor Forum for the year 2023, in Badulla at the Heritage Grand Hotel.
The forum has been organised with the objective of raising awareness of the importance of investor education and investor protection.
The event attracted approximately 175 participants, including existing and potential investors. The forum provided valuable insights on investor education and investor protection.
SEC Director Surveillance/Acting Director Capital Market Development Prabash Wanigatunge, provided a basic knowledge of investments, the process of investing, and the pros and cons of investing in the Stock Market. There was also a session to create awareness on the CSE Mobile App, by the CSE Senior Executive Digital Products Shanika Ramanayake.
Further, an analysis of the sectoral performance and market opportunities was presented by Softlogic Asset Management Asst. Vice President Treasury Shashika Wickramaratne.
A panel discussion was held with the participation of Prabash Wanigatunge, Shashika Wickramaratne, and CSE Senior Vice President Marketing Niroshan Wijesundere providing an opportunity for the participants to ask questions from the panelists.
Towards the end of the forum, participants were also given the opportunity to meet Investment Advisors from stockbroker firms and representatives of Unit Trust Management companies. The SEC and the CSE have planned several investor forums this year including in areas such as Panadura, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura, Negombo, and Batticaloa in the coming months with the intention of creating awareness about investor education and investor protection while highlighting the importance of financial literacy.
