The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), and the
International Finance Corporation (IFC), in partnership with the Australian Government, conducted the third Investor Forum of the year recently in Jaffna, at Tilko City Hotel.
The forum has been organised in line with the objective of the global campaign to raise awareness of the importance of investor education and investor protection.
The event attracted approximately 280 participants, including existing and potential investors. The forum provided valuable insights on investor education and investor protection.
Unit Trust former President and Asian Development Bank former Consultant P. Asokan provided a basic knowledge on investments, the process of investing, and the pros and cons of investing in the stock market whilst CSE Jaffna Branch Junior Executive V. Prashanthan had a session to create awareness on the CSE Mobile app.
Furthermore, some valuable insights on the importance of financial literacy were presented to the audience by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Northern Province Regional Manager Karthigaa Nirojan whilst an analysis of the Sectoral Performance and Market Opportunities were presented by Acuity Knowledge Partners Assistant Director Investment Research Atchuthan Srirangan.
A panel discussion was held with the participation of SEC Director External Relations and Capital Market Education Tushara Jayaratne, P. Asokan, Atchuthan Srirangan, Karthigaa Nirojan and CSE CEO Rajeeva Bandaranaike, providing an opportunity for the participants to ask questions from the panellists.
Towards the end of the forum, participants were also given an opportunity to meet Investment Advisors of stockbroker firms and representatives of Unit Trust Management companies.
The first and the second Investor Forums of the year were held in Kandy and in Galle respectively in the month of October. Two more forums are to be held in Kurunegala and Colombo in the coming weeks with the intention of creating awareness on investor education and investor protection while highlighting the importance of financial literacy.
