Ratnapura District leads Enterprise Sri Lanka- BOC Thurunu Diriya loans disbursement, disbursing 79 loans up to date. This was revealed by the weekly progress report of implementing the Thurunu Diriya loan scheme, which was released by the Bank of Ceylon on 23 January. This report also reveals that Sabaragamuwa Province has in total disbursed 98 loans, and Eheliyagoda Divisional Secretariat (DS) has granted 34 loans, while Ratnapura Divisional Secretariat (DS) granted 11 loans. Further, this report reveals that this loan scheme has disbursed loans worth Rs. 209,694,628.00 among 495 young entrepreneurs.
The Thurunu Diriya loan scheme has disbursed loans in all 25 Districts of the island, and the District-wise loan disbursements are led by Ratnapura, Jaffna and Kalutara districts, while the Provincial-wise loan disbursements are led by Sabaragamuwa and Western Provinces respectively, whereas equal disbursement of loans were reported in Northern and Southern Provinces, amounting to 67.
The Thurunu Diriya loan scheme was implemented by the Bank of Ceylon, with the assistance of the Policy Development Office (PDO) of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Central Program Management Unit (CPMU) and the Small Enterprises Development Division (SEDD) of the Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs, to provide financial assistance to potential young entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka.
This loan scheme provides loans without a guarantor and collateral, or with lenient guarantor conditions, for entrepreneurs below the age of 40 years, who possess a degree or a recognised vocational certificate, and who has been in the business for minimum of 3 years.
