The ceremony to launch the ‘Rathnabhimani’ life insurance and the pension scheme for the welfare of the gem miners, gem technicians and their families was held last week at the BMICH, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
This insurance and pension program is carried out under the National Gem and Jewellery Authority.
The President handed over agreements of the insurances and pensions to 10 beneficiaries at this occasion. He presented evaluation awards to six resource persons of this program.
President Sirisena also watched the gem and jewellery exhibition and observed the special mobile vehicle with machinery to evaluate gems.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Deputy Minister Karunarathne Paranawithana and the Chairman of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority Dr. Kithsiri Dissanayake also joined this occasion.
