People’s Bank’s Digital Stall at Infotel 2018 captivates visitors

As the ‘Gold Partner’ of Infotel 2018, Sri Lanka’s premier national ICT exposition and conference, People’s Bank installed a state-of-the-art People’s Digital Stall at the BMICH for the duration of the exhibition from 2 to 4 November to showcase its pioneering achievements in digital banking. The Bank’s partnership with Infotel 2018 is aligned to its own ambitious digitalisation journey towards becoming Sri Lanka’s Most Digitalised Bank by 2020. 

The People’s Bank’s digitised stall comprised of a fully-fledged digital branch – complete with a Self Banking Unit (SBU); Cash Deposit Machine (CDM), which offers withdrawal facilities; ATMs; and instant bill payments through its state-of-the-art Bill Payment Machines (Kiosks). Reflecting a high level of digitisation for customer convenience, these facilities offer customers the comfort of seamless transactions. People’s Bank invited Infotel visitors to open digital accounts at the venue ad experience the popular People’s Wave Mobile App, which offers an exclusive digitalised banking experience and enables banking on the go. There was a high level of interest among visitors who thronged to the People’s Digital Stall to learn more about the Bank’s digital initiatives and how they enhance the overall banking experience. 

People’s Bank has stepped forward as the Official Banking Partner for Sri Lanka’s flagship ICT Expo, INFOTEL-2018, being held under the theme – ‘Towards a Digital Economy’. Infotel is Sri Lanka’s premier national ICT exposition and conference, organised and hosted by the Federation of IT Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) and was held from 2 to 5 November. FITIS is the voice of the Sri Lanka’s Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) industries, which is comprised of companies and IT professionals representing software, hardware, education and training, communication services and professional service segments of Sri Lankan ICT industries.

People’s Bank is forging ahead towards being the most successful bank in Sri Lanka through the digitisation of its services. The Bank currently serves over 16 million customer account relationships, through 740 branches and is also connected to a network of over 2500 ATMs which are linked through the Lanka Pay gateway. People’s Bank is in the ideal position to take the convenience of digitalised banking services of to all citizens of Sri Lanka. 

Taking digital banking to its next level and introducing green banking to youth, People’s Bank has established Self Banking Centres equipped with the most modern ATM, CDM and Kiosks. The touch screen CDM/ATM/Kiosks are accessible 24 hours in the day, for 365 days in the year, further enhancing convenience for customers and putting them in control of where, when and how they would like to conduct their banking needs. The CDM even enables utility Bill payments by cash apart from facilitating cash deposits and balance enquiry. The ATM, apart from offering standard features, also offers cardless cash withdrawals and cash advances on credit cards, modified to better suit customer needs. Bill Payment is facilitated directly over the account by the CDM and the Kiosk, with real time update facility for customers as well as general public, over the new CDM. Customers even have the availability of creating daily withdrawal group limits upon customer requirements. 

The first phase of People’s Bank’s digitalisation drive culminated with the opening of a fully- fledged Digital Center at York Street, Colombo 1. Incidentally it becomes the first fully Digitalised Branch thus creating history in Sri Lanka’s banking industry. The Bank further launched Express Banking at this digital branch to allow customers to experience how its digitalisation initiatives will streamline and simplify their financial affairs by offering speed and convenience. Going ahead, People’s Bank plans to take digital banking to the doorstep of rural consumers so that they conduct their transactions on our mobile devices and expects to roll our more fully digitalised branches over the coming months, thus fulfilling its sustainability pledge to reduce its carbon footprint and benefit the environment by promoting paperless banking.
