NDB’s 2016 Annual Report themed ‘Unlocking Our Potential to Unleash Yours’ was recognised with three awards at the annual CA Sri Lanka Annual Reports Awards 2017, which was held on 5 December at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe.
NDB bagged the Silver award for the best reports in the Banking Institutions category, an award category which is highly competitive and much sought after by the leading banks within the industry. The Corporate Governance Report of the 2016 NDB Annual Report was awarded the Gold Award for best corporate governance disclosures, whilst the Sustainability Reporting Disclosures was awarded the bronze award, two awards for which winners are chosen across all categories, comprising over 140 organisations from small time community groups to blue chip companies and conglomerates .
This year’s theme of the CA Sri Lanka Annual Report Awards was ‘Quintessence of Eminence’, focusing on recognising the most cohesive, clear and customised annual reports that best reflect an entity’s operations, whilst going beyond its financial performance. The aim of the competition, which spans a history of over half a century, was to encourage effective communication to stakeholders through publication of informative annual reports; promoting effective presentation of financial and non-financial information; and compliance with legislative requirements and generally accepted accounting practices.
Commenting on this feat, National Development Bank Chief Executive Officer Dimantha Seneviratne mentioned, that the bank was honoured to be recipients of these awards by CA Sri Lanka, which are widely known as the benchmark for quality corporate reporting in the country. Seneviratne also stated that the bank places clarity, cohesiveness and transparency at the centre of its annual reports, which is the most important document that is presented to a wide array of audience including the bank’s shareholders. He further opined that these awards are an affirmation of the considerable advancements NDB is making in many fronts.
Assistant Vice President – Finance Planning Suvendrini Muthukumarana commented that NDB continually reviews and adopts best practice local and international reporting and disclosure guidelines in its annual reports – in both financial and non-financial disclosures, to ensure quality information provided to all stakeholders.
