The two new Non-Executive/Non-Independent Directors are R.M.N. Jeewantha and Priyal Silva who will enhance the institute’s current corporate standing. Both gentlemen carry a vast experience in the banking and finance sector with a majority of the experience being in strategic planning, financial markets, financial management and branch management.
“We warmly welcome these two gentlemen as Directors to the MBSL Board and we are extremely confident that they will contribute immensely towards MBSL’s future growth including capital management and financial planning initiatives,” the MBSL said in a statement.
Jeewantha is a graduate of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and holds a BSc Degree in Accountancy (Special) as well as a MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) in 2008. He joined the Bank of Ceylon in 2002 as a Management Trainee and possesses vast experience in retail banking, credit management and financial management.
Specialising in Treasury Management and Investment Banking he commenced his Treasury career as a Trainee Dealer successfully rising to the position of CEO of Bank of Ceylon Primary Dealer Unit. He was later appointed to the Executive Management of the Bank as the Assistant General Manager (Treasury).
Having gained additional international exposure at the Bank of Ceylon in London, Jeewantha is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (AIB).
Further to his posting to MBSL’s exclusive Board he is also a Director of Ceybank Asset Management Ltd., and an Alternate Director of Transnational Lanka Records Solution Ltd., as well as a Member of the Governing Board of Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. Jeewantha also functions as a Member of the Central Bank’s Domestic Financial Market Infrastructure Development project.
Silva is currently the Deputy General Manager (Corporate & Offshore Banking) at the Bank of Ceylon. Prior to that he held a range of Corporate and Executive Management positions including, Deputy General Manager (Sales & Channel Management), Deputy General Manager (Finance and Planning), Chief Marketing Officer, Assistant General Manager (North Western Province), Assistant General Manager (Marketing) and Assistant General Manager (Western Province-North).
Silva graduated from the University of Ruhuna with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Specialising in Marketing) and obtained a Master’s in Business Degree in Accountancy from the University of Kelaniya. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Marketing from CIM. In addition, he is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK as well as the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL).
