MBSL sponsors ‘Sampoorna’ Emerging Business Forum

The Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka and Finance PLC (MBSL) sponsored the ‘Sampoorna’ Emerging Business Forum organised by the Sri Lanka Training and Education Academy. A free-of-charge business forum, under the theme ‘Enterprise Power Overcoming Challenges’ aimed for small and medium scale entrepreneurs was successfully concluded at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute Auditorium recently. 

Considering the timely importance of small and medium scale business development, the Senior Management of MBSL including Chairman Dr. Sujeewa Lokuhewa and Chief Executive Officer (Actg) Jude Gamalath decided to sponsor the above forum. 

The objective of this forum was on edifying small and medium scale entrepreneurs on the value of being realistic for the survival of businesses in the current challenging business environment and the importance of identifying strategies that will be able to address the opportunities that arise in an effective and efficient manner which will result in the development of the business which in turn will lead to the long-term success of businesses.

Speaking at the ‘Sampoorna’ Emerging Business Forum, MBSL Chief Manager – Credit Sanjaya Ranathunga said, “Small and medium scale industries is the lifeline of our country’s economy. Small and medium scale industries contribute largely to Sri Lanka’s Gross National Product. A significant contribution in generating employment opportunities is done by this sector. Accordingly, we have launched an edification program for small and medium scale entrepreneurs. Likewise, we have made arrangements to provide them with special financial service facilities.”

Sri Lanka Training and Education Academy Chairman and Central Bank of Sri Lanka former Deputy Governor Dr. W.A. Wijewardena delivered a weighty lecture under the topic ‘Overcoming all economic challenges’ and the Chief Financial Officer of the Commercial Bank, Colombo, delivered a valuable lecture under the topic ‘Overcoming financial control challenges’ at the ‘Sampoorna’ Emerging Business Forum. 

A forum of discussion was held at the end of each lecture. BDO Partners Management Partner Chartered Accountant Sujeewa Rajapaksha delivered a lecture on ‘Financial reporting and tax management’, Director of the Divisional Development Division of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on ‘Importance of promoting financial literacy/financial inclusion acquiring balanced growth in the country’, and a free advisor and trainer of micro finance and small and medium scale banking, M.S.K. Dharmawardena on ‘Importance of providing funds for enterprises at very convenient and affordable prices’. 

Former Chairman of the National Chamber of Commerce Sujeewa Samaraweera and chartered accountant and micro finance and small and medium scale banking advisor Nusith Kumarathunga moderated the discussion forums.
