The glamourous awards ceremony took place recently at Water’s Edge, Battaramulla.
Organised for the 14th consecutive year by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards is a joint initiative of the National body for Marketing with Nielsen Sri Lanka, the local arm of the largest information and research company in the world. Recognised as one of the most looked-forward-to events in the corporate calendar, SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards recognises brands and personalities that have made a powerful impression in the minds of the people. Winners are based on consumer responses or people’s choice rather than on a decision of a panel of judges.
This year, awards were bestowed under 26 categories, covering all 25 districts. Five new categories were included this year. Speaking about the achievement, LOLC Group Managing Director/CEO Kapila Jayawardena said, “This award mirrors how well and effectively the brand ‘LOLC’ is embedded in the hearts and minds of the people. The SLIM-Nielsen People’s Award is presented entirely on the opinion and the choice of the general public and purely on the brands they love. Therefore, winning this award not just for one year, but for four years consecutively, reveals our commitment to the nation and its people in the long-term. This achievement is a culmination of the efforts and dedication of each and every LOLC team member that delivers unmatched service to the people from their hearts, which has made our brand LOLC the brand of the people by choice.”
LOLC which commenced its operations as a non-bank financial institution has rapidly evolved to become one of the largest and most diversified conglomerates in Sri Lanka. Today the LOLC Group’s portfolio covers a wide spectrum, from financial services to leisure, plantations, trading and manufacturing, renewable energy and other strategic investments. Whilst becoming a household name in the local financial industry, LOLC has also successfully expanded beyond Sri Lanka and is positively impacting the lives of thousands of people across many Asian and African nations.
With its expansive footprint, LOLC has fully established itself as a strong regional, financial conglomerate and the group is poised to be a global financial catalyst with a multi-currency, multi geographic microfinance and SME platform in the future.
