A total of 123 ‘Thurunu Diriya’ loans have been disbursed islandwide as at 19 September. This was revealed by the weekly progress report of implementing the ‘Thurunu Diriya’ loan scheme which was released by the Bank of Ceylon.

It also reveals that Kilinochchi and Batticaloa Districts have not disbursed any loans up to date.
The ‘Thurunu Diriya’ loan scheme is implemented by the Bank of Ceylon with the assistance of the Policy Development Office (PDO) of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Central Program Management Unit (CPMU) of the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs and the Small Enterprises Development Division (SEDD) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Project Management and Southern Development, to provide financial assistance to potential young entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka.
Apart from assisting the young entrepreneurs in getting their loans, the district secretaries in collaboration with the SEDDs conduct awareness programs within their districts to promote this loan and identify the potential young entrepreneurs within their area. The ‘Thurunu Diriya’ loan scheme provides loans without a guarantor and collateral or with lenient guarantor conditions, for entrepreneurs who possess a degree or a recognised vocational certificate and who have been in the business for minimum of three years.
Further details related to this loan scheme can be obtained from Bank of Ceylon branches or the Divisional Secretariats islandwide.
