CSE CEO Rajeeva Bandaranaike speaking at the event congratulated Abans for a transformative journey over the past 50 years, which has seen the company grow into a diversified group of companies.
“Mrs. Prestonjee and the story of Abans is inspiring and epitomises the entrepreneurial spirit of Sri Lankans. Her leadership has been instrumental to the growth of the company over the years and the company has come a long way since starting its business as a corner store 50 years ago. Abans is certainly an inspiring example of innovation, creativity, risk-taking, and perseverance. We truly hope that the story of Abans inspires future entrepreneurs to pursue success and to turn ideas into action,” he added.
Abans Group CEO Sriyan De Silva Wijeyeratne said that that company is honoured to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a Bell Ringing ceremony at the Colombo Stock Exchange while also stating that Abans has and will continue to make sizable contributions to the economy, as uplifting the standards of the people in the country is at the very core of every business decision made by the company. He also stated that the company will continue to evolve under the guidance of its founder and with a vision to grow and transform the Abans Brand even further.
The story of Abans is closely linked with the story of Aban Pestonjee, the Abans Group Founder/Chairperson. 50 years ago, her primary goal was to improve the daily life of the simple homemakers by providing appliances that will make household chores easier. Now 50 years later, this goal has evolved. Abans Group has a strong presence in several key industries, including retail, real estate, services and manufacturing, with a significant presence all over Sri Lanka. More than 20 companies, over 400 showrooms, and more than 15 regional after-sales service centres stand as a testament to Abans’ influence on Sri Lankan society. Abans PLC, Abans Electricals PLC and Abans Finance PLC are listed on the CSE.
