Reuters: The five day Amazon India Couture Week in New Delhi concluded successfully on Sunday.
Around 12 countries showcased their collection at the event.
On day one Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee showcasing his collection in collaboration with French foot wear designer Christian Louboutin.
The vintage collection titled ‘Bater’ comprised of couture in earthy palette of black, grey and brown.
“The collection is called ‘Bater’, which is a very common bird in India. Thought it’s a common bird but it has resilience and I like the colour palate. I always wanted to do a collection on hunting birds and preys, wanted it to be dark gothic, sexual but with very fine Indian embroidery,” Mukherjee told reporters.
Louboution, who travelled all the way from Paris, said he was smitten by the beauty of Mukherjee’s collection.
On day two the Week saw ace designers Rahul Mishra and Gaurav Gupta showcasing their rich yet distinct collections.
In Mishra’s collection, the outfits varied from dresses, skirts, jackets to traditional Indian wear like sarees.
Mishra’s collection, ‘Tree of Life’, was inspired by the modern multi-tasking woman and highlighted their strength and fragility at the same time.
Speaking to media persons, the designer said that he wanted to use fashion as a tool for providing employment.
“This collection of mine is 90% in villages of India, the villages which sometimes don’t even receive electricity. The hand embroidery is done by the villagers. The process behind the embroidery is that there were hand full of embroiders working from Mumbai city from areas like Dharavi, so we are in the process of reverse migrating them and we have sent almost 150 people back to the villages now,” said Mishra.
On the other hand, Gupta’s collection ‘Silt & Cipher’ was all about fantasies and fairy tales.
Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin was the showstopper for Gupta.
“The collection is called Silt and Cipher. Silt is sand and Cipher is zero and it’s for you to decipher, the collection started with thought of enchanted forest and a fantasy land where I live in and Kalki is like my fairy or god mother and it was an attempt to make a collection in couture line which is more sophisticated,” said Gupta.
